Wilson SOHO DualBand
Bi-Directional Cellular Amplifier / Repeater
The Wilson Small Office / Home Office (SOHO) DualBand cellular amplifier repeater.
The SOHO can typically cover 1-2 rooms (depending on outside signal strength) and handle up to 5 users simultaneously.
The Wilson SOHO Wireless Amplifier greatly improves signal strength inside a building when using your cell phone. It does this without physical connection to your phone allowing you to walk around freely during a call. It even allows up to two cell phones and/or Data Cards to be used simultaneously. Works for most 800MHz and 1900MHz range networks including CDMA, TDMA, GSM within the US and Canada (NOTE: Will Not work for Sprint/Nextel iDen or Mike/Telus Networks. See Wilson iDen Cellular Repeaters.)

Using the directional antenna included in this kit will improve the coverage area inside. This directional antenna focuses a higher gain towards your provider's tower. It also reduces the separation requirement between the inside and outside antenna to about 20 ft (inside and outside antenna must be pointed away for each other.) The down side of using a directional antenna is that it focuses towards one direction. If you are trying to improve the signal for multiple service providers and their towers are in opposite directions, the coverage of one service provider may be weaker. If this is the case, we would recommend the omni directional antenna included in Kit 1 or 2.

About Building Cellular Amplifiers
The Wilson SOHO In Building Cellular Amplifier Repeater is a small, bi-directional amp that deliver service levels consistent with what would be expected in areas of high cell network coverage. They amplify a weak or shadowed cellular signal and repeat it in an in-building small office / home office (SOHO) applications. When using a Wilson amplifier in conjunction with Wilson antennas, the outside antenna will collect the cell tower signal and send it through the cable to the amplifier. The signal is then amplified and broadcast from the inside antenna to the surrounding area.
Cell phones and cellular data cards in that area then communicate with the improved signal. When a cell phone or cellular device transmits, the signal is received by the inside antenna, amplified by the amplifier and broadcast back to the cell tower through the outside antenna.
Wilson SOHO Cellular Amplifier / Repeater Features:
- Wireless operation. No physical connection to your phone is required.
- For 800 MHz Cellular and 1900 MHz PCS Bands
- Works on all generations of CDMA, TDMA AND GSM Including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc. (Not for Sprint/Nextel iDen Networks. See iDen Cellular Repeaters)
- Automatic gain adjusting to prevent oscillation
- Gain Indicator lights
- Automatic shutdown on overload
- Maximum +30 dBm output power
- Receiver sensitivity -110 dBm CDMA 1% FER
- AC power supply included
- FCC and IC type accepted .
Benefits
- A cellular amplifier designed specifically for small office and home office environments, apartments, high rises, condominiums, and dormitories. (For larger buildings with more than 5 users, see Wilson's Smart Technology In-Building Bi-Directional Cellular Amplifier / Repeater
- Greatly reduces disconnects and drop outs
- Significantly improves voice and data signal quality
- Has up to 10 times more power than your cell phone or laptop data card
- Significantly improves voice and data signal quality
- Improves data communication rates needed for 3G technologies
- Receives and transmits better than a cell phone or cellular data card
- Allows multiple cell phones and cellular data cards to be used at the same time
- Extends cell phone battery life.
Requires at least 25 feet of separation between Inside and Outside Antenna
Requires fairly good signal outside (2-3 bars min.). The better the outside signal, the more cellular coverage inside the building. See below for estimating improved coverage area.
Estimating Improved Cellular Coverage Area
Coverage area (distance from inside antenna that you can expect a usable cellular signal) can be approximated by:
- Getting a Received Signal Strength Level (RSSL) reading using your cell phone from outside the building. You should also use the reading to determine the best location for the outside antenna. Use the pdf document "Standard Phone Test Modes " which has instructions for putting a cell phone into test mode and reading Received Signal strength. If your phone is not listed in this document or you need additional help getting a RSSL reading, contact Wilson Electronics tech support for help at 866-294-6996.
- Estimating length and type of cable required to install inside and outside antennas
- Selecting inside and outside antenna type.
- Using Wilson's Online Coverage Calculator.
- Use 801105 50db for "Amplifier Gain" for 800MHz coverage calculations
- Use 801306 60db for "Amplifier Gain" for 1900MHz coverage calculations AND subtract 9db from your RSSL reading. (Example: RSSL reading on cell phone = -80db - 9db = -89db. Use "89" 1900MHz coverage calculations.)
NEED HELP?
If you need assistance in calculating the coverage area, call or email us after getting a Received Signal Strength Level reading and estimating cable lengths required to mount inside and outside antennas and we will be happy to help.
Repeater Antenna Requirements
The Wilson amplifier requires two antennas (not included). One antenna for outside and one for inside. The outside
antenna must be 25 feet away from the inside antenna (that's physical separation between the inside and outside antenna not cable length).
These distances must be maintained or the signal will just oscillate between the two antennas and no improvement will be noticed. Also, not enough separation can damage the amplifier.
The Wilson Panel Antenna (best choice), Wilson Low Profile Antenna or Wilson Dome Antenna is recommended for inside use and the Wilson 50 Building Mount Antenna, Wilson Trucker Antenna or Wilson Yagi Antenna is recommended for outside use. More About Wilson Antennas.
Installation Guide
Installation Guide for installing a Wilson amplifier/repeater. (Flash Document)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Wilson Amplifier / Repeater is used in locations where the signal from your service provider is strong outside a building but weak inside the building. It's used where the wireless signal is blocked by the building walls or roof. If your signal is very weak outside of your building, consider a power booster or antenna that connects directly to your phone (such as Wilson's DirectConnect) for better results.

Wilson "Wedge" Wide Band Directional Antenna - 50 ohm
Wilson’s Wide Band Log Periodic Directional 50 ohm Antenna (800 MHz - 2500 MHz) will collect the cell tower signal and send it through the cable to an amplifier, cell phone or cellular data card. When the cell phone or cellular data card transmits, the signal is transferred to an amplifier or directly to the antenna and broadcast back to the cell tower.
